Strangers

What if someday life gets reset and
We end up as two strangers, unmet?
Perhaps then I won’t feel this knot in my chest,
And you’ll be free to love the world,
And I’ll be free to despise everybody.
Finally, with no one to gaslight the (in)visible massive things around me;
It was never just you, darling.
The entire system is against my existence.
I was born to love your kind, your kind was born to detest me.
Yet here I am; hating and being hated.
The sun that warms your skin by the pool
Isn’t the same one that burns my flesh in the hustle.
The pain I feel is deeper,
The wait I face is longer,
The punishment they give me is harsher.
Nothing ever served us the same—
Nothing but the moon.
